On Feb. 14 at about 12:30 p.m., deputies received word of mail theft near Highway 253 and Robinson Creek Road in Ukiah. Deputies followed the suspect, Richard McCormick, 30, of Ukiah back to his motel room on South State Street. They met with McCormick and found he had several stolen packages and mail, metal knuckles, methamphetamine, and pepper spray. Deputies arrested McCormick on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous weapon, and mail theft. Deputies booked him into the Mendocino County Jail on $25,000 bail. The packages and mail were returned to the recipients.
On Feb. 22 at about 11:30 a.m., deputies were told about another mail theft, this time in the 9500 block of Highway 20 near the Lake and Mendocino County line. Deputies found Jose Angulo, 42, of Ukiah and pulled him over near the area of mile marker 39 on Highway 101. Deputies found that Angulo was in possession of the stolen package and five pounds of marijuana packaged for sales. Angulo told deputies his name was Juan Reyes Sosa. However, deputies found several different identifications with different names in Angulo’s wallet. Deputies arrested Angelo on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana, mail theft, and impersonation. He was booked into the county jail and fingerprinted to figure out his identity. Angulo is held on $25,000 bail and deputies returned the stolen mail.
