RENO >> Lake County youth wrestling was well-represented Feb. 24 during the Rocky Mountain Nationals Rumble in Reno. Nine members of Lake County Elite Wrestling took part as did three members of the Kelseyville Crush.
Both teams came away with a fair share of hardware from the event, which drew more than 1,200 wrestlers from across the United States and Canada.
For the Kelseyville Krush, Travis Boyles competed in two divisions, finishing first in the 10-and-under 61-pound division and third in the 10-and-under 57-pound division. Triton Marlowe picked up a first in the 120-pound rookie division for ages 10-12, and a sixth in the 12-and-under 114-pound division, and Jesse Gonzalez finished second in the 90-pound rookie division for ages 10-12.
For Lake County Elite, Carter Rudolph and Brianna Thomas led the way with second-place finishes, Rudolph in the 10-and-under 113-pound division, and Thomas in the 124-pound girls division. Rudolph’s lone loss came to No. 1 seed Dutch Farnsworth in the finals.
Daniel Soria, competing in the first tournament of his wrestling career, placed third in the 15-and-under rookie division.
Korbyn Marlin-Ambriz was entered in two high school girls divisions, placing fourth in one and fifth in the other. In that fifth-place match, Korbyn defeated sister Kylie Marlin-Ambriz.
Three Lake County Elite members — Rudolph, Gabriel Ambriz and Colin Jensen — also competed in the SCWY Zone Championships on Feb. 18 in Loomis. All three qualified for the state championships scheduled for March 24-25 in Clovis. Club members are also headed to the Kids Folkstyle State
