The Kiss

By Lucinda Shaw Chatham

The opportunity was Perfect; facing my moment, destiny at work.

I’d found the man I was hunting, the cowboy singer….

at a table against a crowded wall in my saloon.

My resolve greater than my reserve; my eyes only for him,

Unfaltering, I slid down and onto his lap

Quick! Let the Dance begin…

Our eyes locked…. connecting…….not needing to speak

My arms went around his neck; his hands took possession of me

Leaning in, I began the kiss …the joining was instant

Sinking into the tender, insistent longing, of months of waiting

Our lips, our beings merged,

soft yet burning with an ancient fire

Our minds drifted in the fog of lifetimes of separations………….

… ..passing through centuries of shadows…………….

Lost in our limerence…….. all edges disappeared

not seen, a crowd of people & voices dissolved…….

there was only US….falling….falling…only US….only One …

Swirling, swirling …..in our timeless dreaming dance…..

…waltzing…….waltzing ……..waltzing………

’Til eventually immeasurable unbounded Time yielded

returning us to the linear night…

and then he spoke just to me

”Lady”, he said, “Don’t ever kiss me like that, unless you mean it.”

Moving On

By Leona M. Butts

I could not wish him back for the pain and sadness

he was knowing.

I must do what he would want me to do and that

is continue growing.

So many things in life no one can foresee,

But this I know, I must continue being me.

For the rest of my life I must now account,

Knowing I can make a difference as I climb the mount.

I must move forward and celebrate

The love of my life, my man, he was great.

So, yes, I must move on in celebration

Remembering the love and respect in our long relation.
