Should I vote for Mike?

Recently, I noticed, in the Record Bee, that Mike Thompson was going to run for re-election to Congress, again this year. I thought he wanted to go back to the farm? Oh, but, how you gonna keep ‘em down on the farm after they seen DC?

Oh well, he can’t be doing too much damage. Can he? It seems that he’s always in Lake County attending some wine function, or handing out an award.

I really want to vote for him, so I looked for something to identify with. Let’s see now. Oh, I know! We’re both Viet Nam Vets. Only thing is, when I thankfully returned, the very first thing I did (after kissing my mother), was to change my political affiliation. Since that time I have voted for only one Democrat, that being George Wallace. And, he wasn’t really a Democrat. Was he?

Me and Mike are about the same age, but I’ve noticed I don’t hold my booze like I use to (at the Officers Club), and there are all those wine functions to attend. Oh heck! That won’t work either.

Wait a minute! If we send him back, he’ll be bossed around by that genius, Nancy Polosi. That seals it! Now, I’ve found a reason to vote for old Mike. He’ll be the second Democrat, since I got back.

Same ol’

To William Hui’s comment, I don’t normally address the far left (i.e. the Louis Farrakhan’s of the left), but here it goes. About me and President Reagan, I want to know during the Reagan Administration did you sit around and moan because it wasn’t a Dem President in office or did you take advantage of a booming economy and make your life better, like I did?

I worked my butt off to get there, not sit back and let the Government take care of me, nor did I sit back and blame others for my mistakes! My hard work paid off. It’s called the American Dream come true, not bash America. Same old Dems crap, President Reagan was a dufuss, Sol Alinsky teaching lives on.

Ran across these statutes after the Mayor Schaaf debacle. U.S. Code Section 1373, states a state or local government entity or official may not prohibit or in any way restrict sending to, or receiving from, the ICE information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful of any individual.

U. S. Code Section 1324. Any person who knowingly or in reckless regard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered or remains in the US in violation of Law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection or attempt to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection such alien any place in any building shall be imprisoned for not more than 5 years.

Otherwise Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf may have committed a felony.

Which also means you Dems cannot pick and chose the laws you want to enforce.

How about caring about American Citizens instead of criminal illegal aliens? Oh, that’s right, Dems know best and can do no wrong but now that will go to the court‘s to be decided! Lots of luck because you Dems are going to need it. While 46 million “Americans” live in poverty. Oh, that’s right, the Dem’s are going to fix that too, going on for 80 years.

And I have a solution to illegal aliens and Sanctuary Cities problems, lets sell LA and SF areas back to Mexico, that way it will accelerate the decay of these major left wing cities, like the Dems want to happen, and we get rid of all the problems that you Dems have created. But then again, I don’t no why I want to pick on Mexico.

Look to Lucerne

I am a home owner and resident in Lucerne. There is potential and many positive aspects in this small community. While the Board of Supervisors has invested in Lucerne in the past, we need renewed effort now.

The shoreline parks are a wonderful element of our little “town” and very welcoming to visitors. Our charming art cottage complex is being renovated to attract more businesses. We hope for new owners for “the Castle”. Fresh and Bangin and the European Bistro offer tasteful eating options so close to our attractive and convenient pharmacy. We are proud of our local Lakeview meat market which has merited nation acclaim and draws patrons from all over. Along the highway frontage, we have sweet play areas for children and for lake viewing.

Significant negative elements, however, are discouraging. Many Lucerne storefronts remain dark and unused. Rental homes are often dingy, neglected and cluttered. Against the wishes of many locals, Dollar General is trying to establish another store here. Traffic often resembles a speedway. In the last couple of budget years BOS funding for Lucerne harbor was assigned, but then re-allocated twice to Holiday Harbor in Nice.

But renovating the Lucerne harbor can be a powerful “engine” in continuing the revitalization of our town. Although the harbor is very popular with many fishermen, they park their trailers, then return from fishing, load up their boats … and LEAVE! Also right now the harbor is glutted with weeds. Dredging the and putting in more tie-ups would be a GREAT contribution to Lucerne. Boats could tie-up from any area of the lake and enjoy food, art, shopping and recreation, thus adding to the general attractiveness of our county as a tourist destination.

Along with the improvement and expansion of our harbor, other welcomed investments in Lucerne would be to improve access and signage for the art cottages with an entrance (and parking strip) directly from the highway. If the “shore” area between the playground and the lake were dredged and cleaned, it could be roped off to add another family spot for swimming, wading, and enjoying beautiful Clear Lake. Proposed universal garbage pick up and continuing work in lowering water costs, will add to the well being of our community and create an enhanced image, not only of Lucerne, but of Lake County as a whole.

I hope that the Board of Supervisors address these important concerns.
