HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> Matt Wothersoon is on a pretty good roll and an even-par 72 on Wednesday afternoon during a Coastal Mountain Conference South golf match at Hidden Valley Lake Golf Course did nothing to diminish his recent run of strong play.

Wotherspoon’s low individual round helped Kelseyville finish second in the eight-team field as the Knights finished with a score of 374, edging out host Middletown by eight shots. Defending champion St. Vincent won the day with a 346. The only other complete teams (four or more golfers) were St. Helena, fourth with 427, and Credo, fifth with 533. Technology, Geyserville and Stony Point all were incomplete.

“He continues to show himself as the top player in the Redwood Empire,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said of his senior standout Wotherspoon, who carded a 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. “I don’t know if there’s anyone else playing better golf in the Redwood Empire.”

Wotherspoon had three birdies during his round.

Only one other player in the field, Geyserville’s Carson Kalbfleisch, fired a round in the 70s. Kalbfleisch, a senior, finished with 77. Justin Peck’s 80 led St. Vincent.

Other rounds counting toward Kelseyville’s final score were Dylan Escobedo’s 95, Michael Beverlin’s 103 and Jon Vanderwall’s 104.

For Middletown, Andrew Martz led the way with 94, Derek Coulter and Quentin Crayne had rounds of 95, and Austin Pritchard finished with 98.

Through two South matches, St. Vincent is atop the standings at 14-0 followed by Kelseyville and Middletown, both at 11-3, and St. Helena at 8-6.

The CMC South teams return to action Monday at Petaluma Country Club.
