CLEARLAKE >> The City of Clearlake approved design contracts for several road rehabilitation and improvement projects under Measure V at a Special City Council meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
“Approving these design contracts is a critical step forward to improving our city,” said City Manager Greg Folsom. “Once the construction drawings are complete, we can put these projects out to bid and start making the improvements that our residents have been asking for. It’s going to be a very exciting season this year.”
The road projects include:
The Country Club and Kings Lane Pavement Rehabilitation Project
This project covers the areas between Lakeshore Drive and Arrowhead Road. This area will receive an upgrade, despite a touchup earlier last year with the Golden State Water Company.
The Pine Street Rehabilitation Project
Pavement restoration will occur between Olympic Drive and Division Avenue. Clearlake Mayor Bruno Sabatier said those who travel through that area to access Burns Valley Elementary School could expect to say goodbye to current road cracks.
The Highlands Harbor Drive and Harbor Lane Pavement Rehabilitation Project
The area covered will stretch from Old Highway 53 to the end of Highlands Harbor Drive.
According to Public Works Director for Clearlake Doug Herren, these are all Measure V sales tax projects with designs expected to be complete by this spring and with construction slated for the summer. Each project received at least three design offers, to which the City chose the lowest bidder.
The California Engineering Company (CEC) was chosen to cover both the Highlands Harbor/Harbor Lane Project (with a contract set at $37,923) and the Pine Street Project (set at $12,342), while Coastland Civil will oversee the Country Club Project for $29,140.
“These road projects are directly related to the trusted votes we received for Measure V, and this is only the beginning,” Sabatier said.
Also approved were the Highlands Park Frontage and Off-Site Parking Improvement Project, set for $17,519 with CEC and the Austin Park Improvements Project for $201,224 with Design Workshop.
The Austin Park project is said to have its design complete by the summer and construction to begin in the fall or spring of 2019.
The approvals were part of many tasks under all projects the City said it hoped to accomplish within the first full year that Measure V is in effect during a City Council Meeting in October of last year.
Each one was voted unanimously on Tuesday.
