KELSEYVILLE >> The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 8-8 of Lake County is offering a boating safety course on Saturday, April 21.
The new California Boating Law which became effective January 1, 2018 requires that anyone under the age of 21 must have taken an approved boating safety course. Additionally, anyone who is supervising someone that is under the age of 21 (e.g. Grandparent supervising a grandchild), must also have taken an approved boating safety course.
The class will be held at Braito’s Marina in the Konocti Bay Sailing Club’s facility located at 1555 East Lake Drive, Kelseyville. This is an all-day class with a cost of $25 and each student that successfully completes the course receives a Certificate at the end of the day that is then submitted by the student to California Parks and Recreation, Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW).
The California boaters card will be issued by DBW. Applying to DBW for the boating card can result in a six-to-eight week delay, and possibly longer, before you are issued the card. Taking the class early before the summer is recommended. Registrations for the class are now being taken and it is recommended that you apply as soon as possible due to limited space.
For additional information and to register for the class, call Betty Strach, Flotilla Staff Officer for Public Education at 707-657-3029.
