LAKE COUNTY >> Though most of the heavy rain swept through Lake County all day Friday, the National Weather Service predicts a mixture of rain showers and thunderstorms for Saturday. Additionally, a Flood Watch warning is set to remain until Sunday morning.
The alert, sent from the NWS in Sacramento, was set on Friday and warned areas like Southern and Northern Lake County, Lakeport and Clear Lake of possible flooding.
A total of one to three inches of rain was predicted in the Valley and three to seven inches in the foothills and mountains. The County’s Water Resources Department reported Clear Lake to reach 4.33 feet on the Rumsey Gauge yesterday. And the weather provider recorded 1.22 inches of rainfall by 10 a.m. on Friday for the city of Clearlake — the area to receive the most rain in a list of 14, with Vacaville at .41 inches as the lowest.
“A strong atmospheric river will bring wet weather into the weekend,” the Flood Watch read. “Some snowmelt is possible due to the rainfall and warm temperatures. Stream and creek levels are expected to rise and could cause local flooding. Ponding on roads is also possible, as well as rock and mudslides.”
Though no rock or mudslides were known of in Lake County, many took to social media to remind drivers of safe driving and posted photos of areas with high levels of collected rainfall. Among those places was Scotts Creek, one of Clear Lake’s main tributaries. The area ran from bank to bank on Friday afternoon, which is usually found dry according to Record-Bee outdoors columnist Terry Knight.
The weather is expected to clear up by Sunday, but a slight chance of rain may return on Tuesday.
