SEBASTOPOL >> Bryson Trask of Lower Lake High School demolished the competition in the boys discus on Saturday during the Castleberry Invitational at Analy High School in Sebastopol, uncorking a winning toss of 159 feet, 9 ½ inches.
Only Middletown’s Colton Hall, the runner-up at 141-2, was in the same area code as the junior Trask, who added a second-place finish in the shotput at 43-7 ¾. Matt Hart of Casa Grande (Petaluma) won the event at 45-2 while Middletown’s Hall was fourth overall at 42-11 ¾.
While Trask was the only Lake County athlete to bring home a win from the primarily large school competition, Middletown’s Kelsey Lemoine just missed. A junior, Lemoine finished second in the 100-meter run at 13.06 seconds, edged out by Casa Grande’s Lauren Doran in 12.98.
Lemoine’s teammate, junior Taelor Roderick, added a third-place finish in the shotput (30-8 ½) won by Casa Grande’s Lilly McCoy in 33-4 ¾. Roderick also placed seventh in the discus (85-10) also won by Casa Grande’s McCoy (97-5).
The Middletown High School track team returns to action Wednesday afternoon in St. Helena where Calistoga and St. Vincent are also scheduled to compete. Lower Lake joins Upper Lake and Fort Bragg in a four-team meet on Wednesday in Kelseyville. Both Coastal Mountain Conference meets start at 3:30 p.m.
