UKIAH >> Kelseyville High School senior Matt Wotherspoon tied for fourth place on Monday afternoon during the 32nd annual Ukiah High School Golf Classic at the par-70 Ukiah Municipal Golf Course.

Granada High School of Livermore topped the 14-team field with a score of 389 (combined total of five of six low individual rounds) followed by California High School with 396 and St. Vincent with 405. Kelseyville placed ninth overall with 509 and Middletown was 10th with 542.

Lucas Happy of Casa Grande shot the low individual round, a 2-over-par 72, with California’s Brandon Proung (73) a shot back and Granada’s Nate McClendon (74) two shots off the pace. Kelseyville’s Matt Wotherspoon and Casa Grande’s Ryan Stewart carded rounds of 76.

Though the weather was ideal for the tournament with no wind, the fairways were soaked from last week’s substantial rainfall.

“Ukiah Muni sits in a bowl so it was pretty saturated,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said.

Golfers received free relief for plugged balls, of which there were many.

Derek Coulter’s round of 89 led Middletown. Kelseyville’s Mike Beverlin (93) and Jon Vanderwall (98) also avoided triple digits. Wotherspoon had one birdie during his round.

Kelseyville’s Berry won the super senior long drive contest.

Kelseyville, Middletown and St. Vincent, all members of the Coastal Mountain Conference South, return to conference action Thursday at Meadowood Golf Club in St. Helena, weather permitting.
