ST. HELENA >> Matt Wotherspoon fired a 2-over-par 60, the low round of the day, to lead Kelseyville High School’s golf team to a second-place finish during a Coastal Mountain Conference South match at the par-58 Meadowood Golf Club.

Undefeated conference leader St. Vincent (28-0) won its fourth straight South match with a team total of 276 (combined rounds of the four low individuals). Kelseyville (23-5) was next at 298 followed by Middletown (21-7) at 318, St. Helena (16-12) at 345, Technology at 388, Credo at 448, and Stony Point and Geyserville both incomplete (fewer than four golfers).

While it rained on the Kelseyville team van en route to St. Helena’s home course, once the Knights arrived there they and the other CMC South teams enjoyed partly sunny conditions, almost no wind, and temperatures in the high-50s to low-60s.

“The course is in a bowl, so you don’t see a whole lot of wind,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “The course had a makeover about three years ago and they’ve done a really nice job with it.”

Wotherspoon was among only a handful of golfers to shoot in the 60s. Max Kleinecke led St. Vincent with 63 while Derek Coulter’s 66 paced Middletown. Among the other low rounds was a 70 for Carson Kalbfleisch of Geyserville and a 71 by Kelseyville’s Mike Beverlin, who had one birdie.

Also for Kelseyville, Jon Vanderwall fired a round of 82 and Dylan Escobedo had 85.

Other Middletown scores had Andrew Martz at 83, Austin Pritchard at 84, and Christian Hicks at 85.

Kelseyville’s golfers travel to Marin Country Club in Novato on Monday to participate in the St. Vincent Tournament. The next CMC South match is April 19 at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.
