ST. HELENA >> Middletown and Clear Lake athletes traveled to St. Helena on Wednesday for a Coastal Mountain Conference meet on the Saints’ all-weather track that came in handy when heavy rain began to fall during the 3,200-meter race.

“It was pouring, I felt bad for the runners,” Clear Lake coach Dick Bode said.

With the exception of the boys shotput, which was canceled because it was just to slippery for the throwers, all the events were completed.

The Cardinals didn’t have many varsity athletes in action, but Tianna Jardstrom certainly made her presence felt by winning both the 800 meters (2 minutes, 45 seconds) and the 1,600 (6:14.7) and finishing second in the 400 behind winner Grace Southern of Middletown (1:06.7).

Also winning events from Middletown were Kelsey Lemoine (13.1) in the 100, Colleen Schimansky (18.0) in the 100 hurdles, Alyssa Hart (56.7) in the 300 hurdles, Amy Herrmann (4 feet, 8 inches) in the high jump, and Taelor Roderick in both the shotput (30-4 ½) and discus (92-4).

Schimansky added a second in the high jump while Herrmann finished second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles.

Middletown’s 4×100 and 4×400 relays teams also posted wins.

Boys

Bret German won the 400 (56.9) and finished second in the 200 (25.6) for the Middletown varsity boys. Other Middletown winners were Jeff Morris in the high jump (5-8), Victor Guzman in the triple jump (32-4 ½), and Colton Hall in the shotput (42-7).

The Mustangs also had a handful of second-place finishers, including Casey Chicoine in the 100, Evan Dodd in the 110 hurdles, and Mark Breiner in the shotput.

Clear Lake’s Quentin Scott placed sixth in the shotput at 29-7.

JV boys

Clear Lake’s Felipe Sturr won the shotput (38-8) in the junior varsity boys division while teammate Brendan Jones finished first in the 100 (12.2) and second in the long jump

For Middletown, Hagan Cadwallader had a big day, winning the 110 hurdles (18.9), the 300 hurdles (53.2) and the high jump (4-6). Another Middletown standout was Forrest Devine, who was first in the 400 (58.8) and long jump (15-9 ½). Also for Middletown, Gabe Godinez won the 200 (25.5) and was second in the 100.

Other Clear Lake standouts were Ethan Scuderi-Schulman, who was second in the 400 and third in the 300 hurdles, and Donovan Valadez, who posted third-place finishes in the long jump and 100. Sterling Wong placed second in the shotput.
