LAKE COUNTY >> Those who served honorably on active duty in the Armed Forces, the Guard or the Reserve are authorized to receive a Cold War Recognition Certificate, the Lake County Veterans Service Office announced.

Those who qualify must have served from September 2, 1945, through December 26, 1991, as per section 1084 of the Fiscal Year 1998 National Defense Authorization Act.

The certificate is awarded to all U.S. Armed Forces personnel who served during the Cold War era defined by these dates. The Secretary of Defense offers the certificates.

One will need proof of service to apply, such as providing a DD Form 214 Record of Military Service.
