MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown High School’s varsity boys track team nearly pulled off a clean sweep of first-place finishes Wednesday during a Coastal Mountain Conference meet at Middletown where Clear Lake, Upper Lake, Fort Bragg and Point Arena also participated.
Middletown’s varsity boys won 14 of the 16 events. Upper Lake’s Kenny Hodges won the long jump at 16 feet, 8 inches while Fort Bragg finished first in the pole vault.
Double-event winners for Middletown were Tyler Cobb in the 1,600 meters (5 minutes, 14.81 seconds) and 3,200 (11:25.5), Casey Chicoine in the 100 (11.8 seconds) and 200 (24.9), and Colton Hall in the shotput (37-5 1/2) and discus (105-11).
Other event winners, all from Middletown, were Evan Dodd in the 110 hurdles (17.7), Bret German in the 400 (56.9), Isaac Rascon in the 800 (2:25.4), Jack Farres in the 300 hurdles (48.4), Jeffrey Morris in the high jump (5-8) and Trey O’Neill in the triple jump (36-3).
Middletown also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Clear Lake’s top finishers were Quintin Scott, who was fifth in the discus at 84-4 and fifth in the 3,200 at 15:45, and Jacob Lopez, who was sixth in the 800 at 2:45.
Girls
Kelsey Lemoine of Middletown won the 100 (13.2) and 200 (28.1) in girls action while Clear Lake’s Tianna Jardstrom posted firsts in the 800 (2:43.6) and 1,600 (6:04.5) along with a second in the 400. Taelor Roderick of Middletown just missed bringing home two firsts as she won the shotput (31-4) and finished second in the discus at 94-10, just one inch behind teammate Hanna Morris, who won with a toss of 94-11.
Other Middletown single-event winners were Colleen Schimansky in the 110 hurdles (18.0), Grace Southern in the 400 (1:04.6), Alyssa Hart in the 300 hurdles (55.4), and Amy Herrmann in the high jump (4-8).
Clear Lake’s Paige Woodruff won the pole vault in 8-6.
Middletown also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
JVs
Donavin Valadez had a big day for the Clear Lake frosh-soph squad, winning the long jump in 16-7 and placing thrd in both the 100 (12.4) and high jump (4-10). Teammate Felipe Sturr added a first in the shotput (38-2) and a second in the discus (86-9).
Other Clear Lake standouts were Brendan Jones, who was second in the high jump (5-0) and fifth in both the 100 (12.7) and long jump (14-10); Ethan Scuderi-Schulman, who was third in the 400 (1:03.5) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (53.9); and Sayer Ford, who was second in the 300 hurdles (51.7) and fifth in the 400 (1:09).
Middletown’s track squads return to action next Wednesday in Kelseyville while Clear Lake visits Fort Bragg.
