HIDDEN VALLEY >> On Thursday, May 31, golf carts will be crisscrossing the Hidden Valley Lake Golf Course at Adventist Health Clear Lake’s 14th Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction.
The always-popular event will include contests, prizes, raffles, a catered dinner and a silent auction, all in support of Lake County’s most vulnerable residents. Proceeds from the tournament will fund the purchase of a mobile shower unit to serve people who are homeless and be available for use in the case of an evacuation due to fire or other natural disasters. The lack of accessible showers and toilets are critical problems facing these vulnerable individuals and a critical barrier to finding employment and fighting infection.
“Golf may be just a game, but our tournament makes a real difference for our patients, friends, and neighbors,” said Philip “Flip” Fitch, the tournament director and a member of the surgical services team at Adventist Health Clear Lake. “It’s great to see people out on the course having a fantastic time and knowing all the money raised is going to a cause that benefits everyone.”
AHCL director of community wellness Shelly Mascari adds, “While we partner with other agencies for housing solutions, this mobile shower unit will provide a safe, clean space that restores faith and preserves dignity. This portable unit will not only assist those struggling with homelessness but also will be activated in emergency scenarios such as wildfires to assist those in need.”
Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and individual golfers and teams can register to participate. Community members are also invited to the evening dinner and silent auction. More information and registration details are online at https://foundation.sthelenahospitals.org/ahclgolf.
