KELSEYVILLE >> The weather is warming up and so are Kelseyville’s bats after a non-league doubleheader sweep of the visiting St. Bernard Crusaders of Eureka on Saturday as the Knights won 10-0 in six innings in the opener and 17-2 in five innings in game two.

“The last three games have been much, much better,” Kelseyville coach Phil Psalmonds said of his team’s hitting, which is now complimenting a defense and pitching from Allison Bryant that has been lights out so far this season.

Kelseyville improved to 11-1 overall.

In game one, Bryant and Bailey Couey each went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Bryant also doubled and tripled while driving in two runs. Bib Hamner went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

Bryant tossed a two-hitter, striking out four and walking six. Four of the walks came late in the game when the sophomore pitcher was tiring, according to Psalmonds.

“She had pitched the day before (against Middletown) and it was pretty warm out there (Saturday),” Psalmonds said.

Rest between games and a meal seemed to revitalize Bryant, who came back with another two-hitter in game two, striking out two and walking two. She allowed two unearned runs in the fifth inning after the Knights had made several switches on defense.

“All three of our errors came in the fifth,” Psalmonds said.

Kelseyville broke open the second game with a 12-run second inning. Ten different players collected hits and eight knocked in runs. Among the leaders were Couey (2-for-3) with three RBIs, Hamner (1-for-2) with three RBIs, Cassandra Villalobos (2-for-3) with two RBIs, Taylor Paulich (2-for-3, RBI) and Paige Bour (2-for-3, RBI).

St. Bernard is 4-13 on the season.

The Knights open the second half of their league schedule Tuesday in St. Helena. They return home Thursday to play Lower Lake.
