FRESNO >> Travis Boyles of the Kelseyville Krush wrestling club nailed down a state title in the novice 58-pound Greco division last weekend during the California USA Kids Greco and Cadet/Junior Freestyle State Championships at Selland Arena in Fresno.
Since placing third at the Kids Folkstyle Championships last March in Fresno, Boyles has been working hard to improve his wrestling technique. All of that hard work paid off this past weekend as he climbed atop the awards podium to receive his bear trophy for first place.
Boyles wasn’t the only Krush member taking part in the competition. Three Kelseyville High School students wrestling under the Krush banner also turned in strong showings. Jasmin Clarke finished second in the junior girls 180-pound division, which qualifies her for the Nationals in Fargo. Javante Gregoire finished third in the junior boys 220-pound division and will petition for an at-large berth into the Nationals since only the top two in each weight class are guaranteed spots in Fargo. Alex Garcia placed eightH in the junior boys 170-pound division.
