GEYSERVILLE >> Christina Wilson is closing in on graduation day at Upper Lake High School, but the three-sport athlete is still going strong. On Thursday, she went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs as the Cougars routed Geyserville 24-3 in a non-league softball game at Geyserville.

Colene Pulido also had four hits for the Cougars (3-9), including a double and a RBI. Every Upper Lake starter had at least one hit. Players with three hits were Molly McCabe (3-for-4, double 3 RBIs), Adrianna Saldana (3-for-5, double, 3 RBIs), Cheyanne Obedoza (3-for-4, 4 RBIs) and winning pitcher Katlyn Minnis (3-for-4, triple, 2 RBIs).

“We couldn’t stop hitting,” Upper Lake coach Nick Williamson said. “We were on.”

Leading 5-2 after one inning, the Cougars sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the second and scored 12 times to bust the game wide open.

Minnis registered the five-inning complete game, striking out three and walking five.

“The most controlled I’ve seen her pitch all season,” Williamson said. “And the defense was holding up pretty decent behind her.”

Upper Lake plays its final home game Tuesday against Credo of Rohnert Park. The Cougars close out the season the following Tuesday (May 15) at Rincon Valley Christian.
