LAKE COUNTY >> The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public of a telephone scam.
According to LCSO Lt. Rich Ward, some residents may have received a call to one’s home or cell phone from a local number. The caller identifies themselves as a “Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy” and advises the person they have missed jury duty.
The caller indicates there is a warrant for arrest that can be removed from the system if one immediately pays over the telephone.
“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that you should not give out personal or account information to anyone who calls you without being able to verify the caller’s identity,” Ward said in a prepared statement.
