KELSEYVILLE >> Fringe, feathers and sequence were much in attendance on Saturday, April 28 at Boatique Winery in Kelseyville as the Lakeport Women’s Civic Club held their twenty-fifth annual Mad Hatters Ball.
Nearly 200 women donned their finest cloche hats and came out to celebrate the Roaring Twenties and help the LWCC raise money for the many important projects and causes that they help to support all over Lake County. Among them is the Northlake Adult Day Center, Veteran’s Honor Guard, Sexual Assault Response Team at Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Lake County Family Resource Center, Sulphur Fire Victims Fund and two $1,000 scholarships for students.
Club members move all about the county inviting local businesses to share whatever they can, and then they turn the smallest, sometimes seemingly insignificant trinkets into treasures by gathering them with some of the loftier offerings of others and lovingly creating a prize basket for some lucky person to win as a raffle prize.
Shirley Crawford was the winner of a shadow box framed guitar signed by the likes of Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson, Brooks and Dunn, Billy Dean and Brad Paisley. In fact, that was just the highlight of Crawford’s winning streak. She was also the winner of three other baskets.
Smoking S BBQ provided the outstanding meal, and Audrey Powers and Cheryl Robbins baked the delectable array of cookies, and crème puffs that were served for dessert which was enjoyed as charming models sashayed down the runway in their Spring attire from OAK Boutique in Kelseyville. Caitlin Andrus always does a wonderful job dressing the LWCC ladies who volunteer for this part of the fun.
The Lakeport Women’s Civic Club is one hundred and five members strong this year, and it is always a pleasure to see the sixty of them that usually are in attendance at the Riviera Hills Country Club and Restaurant on the first Friday of each month, excepting July and August. The gathering begins at 11 a.m., and a general meeting is held at 11:30. An outstanding, reasonably priced meal is enjoyed following the meeting and a speaker, sharing some topic of interest, completes the afternoon. The lunch is by reservation only and if you would like to join us to see how it feels to be a member of this well-rounded group of savvy, professional, crafty, witty, serious, fun-loving bunch of gals, call Cheryl Robbins at 707-533-9375.
