MIDDLETOWN >> Resilience project classes come to an end this weekend with a final Intuitive painting session today, May 19, from noon to 5 p.m., and a last mixed technique printmaking session on tomorrow, May 20, at the same time. Resilience participants have enjoyed art making with guidance from MAC’s accomplished artists and teachers in the MAC studio throughout the year. Classes cost just $5, include materials and supplies, and are open to adults and teens 12-up of all levels of art experience professional to newbies. For Painting Resilience, Sage Abella offers Each Ending is a New Beginning this weekend. “Endings and beginnings are happening all the time in our lives! Sometimes in bigger ways than others,” said Abella who is preparing to leave the area. “This is the last painting class of our Resilience Project and a time to feel into how we choose to story our lives forward. Come play in this ending/beginning with me! “ Nick Hay, who has led classes in drypoint etching, monotype and collagraph this year, offers a printmaking session where participants can work in any technique they choose including all of the above and linocuts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a plate you have worked on, or begin something new. An impressive exhibit of works created in Resilience Printmaking is on view now at Lakeport City Hall, which is open to the public during business hours. “In addition to the healing and enriching aspects of art making, a key goal of our project is to weave art into daily life in Lake County,” said artist and MAC Director Lisa Kaplan. “In the final weeks of Resilience, we are opening exhibits in multiple locations county-wide and publishing a chapbook of writing and images created during the project. MAC is grateful to the California Arts Council, a state agency, for support of Resilience, along with support from Adventist Health and other local agencies and businesses who have helped us provide local, affordable, quality access to the arts and artmaking.” Those interested should reserve a spot at www.middletownartcenter.org/resilience, email MiddletownArtCenter@gmail.com or call 707-809-8118.
