EUREKA >> The North State Modified Series presented by Protest the Harvest moves north to the Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka for the Memorial Day weekend.

It’s race No. 2 of the “Driving Out Cancer” awareness tour and it takes place Sunday. A special practice session takes place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Redwood Acres Raceway, which is located on the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, 3750 Harris St. in Eureka.

The O’Reilly Nor-Cal 60-lap feature on Sunday pays $1,000 to the winner plus a $250 bonus from Ward Land Management and Development (WLM&D). The Lucas Oil Dash for Cash contenders run for $100 to win and $50 for second place. In addition, the top 15 drivers in the NSMS points standings share in the $2,500 Lucas Oil Tow Money program, and every driver that enters the event gets $100 bonus tow money.

The season-opening NSMS tour race took place earlier this month at Shasta Speedway in Anderson. Kris Price of Sacramento was the winner of the feature while Darrin Knight of Kelseyville set the fast time over the 27-car field. Adrianna Strugnell of Kelseyville earned the Keyser Hard Charger award by passing the most cars.

A new points system finds Randy Houston of Medford, Oregon, leading by one point over Price. Santa Rosa’s Cameron Austin sits third followed by Sacramento’s Jason Philpot in fourth and Cloverdale driver Dustin DeRosier in fifth.

The North State Modified Series joins the local bombers, road runners, bandoleros, Legends Cars and mini-stocks. For more information visit the North State Modified Series Facebook page or call the NSMS business office at (707) 274-1662.

The North State Modified Series is presented by Protect the Harvest, Lucas Oil, Ward Land Management & Development, Hoosier Tire West, Sunoco Race Fuels, Naake Suspension, Five Star Bodies, Racer Bling, Keyser Racing Products, Scribner Plastics and Frank’s Radios.
