Winemaker Richard “Kaz” Kasmier was an advertising photographer in his past life. After eight years of award-winning amateur winemaking, he made the leap to commercial winemaking. He opened Kaz Winery as a small family owned boutique operation in Kenwood, Sonoma Valley. In 2015, they relocated their production and tasting room to their current location in Big Valley. Kaz specializes in organic wines, complex reds, bold blends, rare varietals and port-style wines. All of the wines are low, or no sulfite added wines.
Artist Megan Elaine Luis’ specialty is western-themed, colored pencil drawings on old barn wood. She has been drawing for as long as she can remember and her main subjects have always been horses. She first started working in graphite pencil, and then moved onto working in colored pencil. Most of her drawings are born of her own personal enjoyment, but she does accept some commission work and has drawn many dog portraits for clients. Luis competes, shows and sells her works at horse shows, public events, horse expos, and this June at the Wine Studio in Upper Lake.
Luis works at a veterinary hospital, also works as a dog trainer, and cares for her family and horses on her ranch in Yuba County.
Lake County Wine Studio is a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County.
The gallery is located at 9505 Main Street in Upper Lake. It is open Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-7 p.m., and Friday from 1-8 p.m. The Luis art show will be on display for the full month of June. For more information call Lake County Wine Studio at (707) 275-8030 or (707) 293-8752.
