MIDDLETOWN >> A series of public parties, dubbed First Fridays, in downtown Middletown are underway this summer.

The events, to take place on the first Friday of each month through September, will commence tomorrow, June 1. Each will run from 6-9 p.m. and feature businesses with later operation hours, local artists and artisans, live music in several locations and street food available for purchase.

Each month will have a theme:

June 1 Middletown Community Car Show July 6 Splash Zone Water Fundraising

August 3 Wellness Café September 7 Lake County Fashion Show

Attendees will have the opportunity to start the evening by picking up a treasure map at the Middletown Art Center or another participating business. The map will indicate users to meet the artists, collect tokens and enter a drawing to win prizes.

Tomorrow, the Middletown Community Car Show will showcase treasured local cars and a People’s Choice award. The vehicles will be in place by 5 p.m. The public is encouraged to arrive early to view them, talk to owners and vote for one’s favorite.

First Fridays is a collaboration of several organizations to showcase the diverse talents of local artists and entrepreneurs and support the South Lake County economy.

First Fridays are brought by Phoenix Collaborative, in partnership with the Middletown Area Merchants Association (MAMA), the Middletown Art Center (MAC), and the Middletown Community Farmers’ Market.

Also, the Middletown Community Farmers’ Market will sell locally-grown produce on the corner of Highways 175 and 29 at the Middletown Art Center every Friday, from June to October, from 5-8 p.m.
