ST. HELENA >> After two days in the hospital, the Cal Fire fireman who was injured during the Hardester’s Market fire in Middletown on Monday has returned home. Justin Costa was released from the UC Burn Center in Sacramento on Wednesday afternoon and is “currently resting at home,” state officials said. He suffered from third-degree burns as a result of responding to the fire that destroyed the Calistoga Road structure. He was part of the initial fire crews that arrived on scene just before 2:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol officer Efrain Cortez helped Costa out of the burning store, where he was then transported by helicopter to the Sacramento hospital. Cal Fire said the Serious Accident Review Team is currently investigating the incident, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
