CLEARLAKE >> In yet another cleanup by Citizens Caring 4 Clearlake (CC4C), the nonprofit organization cleared over 1,500 pounds of trash and debris off an abandoned, homeless encampment late last month.

On May 24, CC4C, an organization dedicated to helping keep Clearlake clean, started an abatement of the site located in a wooded area throughout several privately-owned lots on West 40th Avenue, just north of the Highlands Shopping Center, the Clearlake Code Enforcement Division said.

After five days of work, with the help of Code Enforcement, a total of 1,740 pounds of trash and debris were collected and removed. About 400 pounds of metal and 13 tires were recycled. CC4C also demolished a large “tent-style” structure which had been constructed out of tarps, according to Code Enforcement Supervisor Lee Lambert.

All items cleared from the abandoned, homeless encampment were placed on the edge of the road by the nonprofit organization, later picked up and disposed of by Code Enforcement officers.

“This is just another example of the great things CC4C is doing in our community,” said Lambert. “Over the past few years, the City has joined forces with CC4C on several clean-up projects. Currently, we are in the midst of completing several joint projects with CC4C. If it wasn’t for the volunteers from their organization, it would be impossible to complete these projects. We look forward to continuing these types of project throughout the city.”

CC4C is a privately operated nonprofit organization which relies solely on volunteers and donations. For more information on CC4C or to become a volunteer, please contact Barbara Christwitz at 707-995-0940.
