Fire crews have reached 75 percent containment on the 127 acres open fire in the Grindstone District at the Mendocino National Forest that was first reported on Friday afternoon, according to an update from the United States Forest Service web page.
The fire is located 25 miles west of Willows, the county seat of Glenn County, and is burning grass, oak, and mixed timber on Open Ridge. The Forest Service said there are currently around 100 resources assigned to the fire, including crews, engines and water tenders. Fire crews will be staying on the fireline to make sure burning embers do not spread outside the lines established by those fighting the fire, as it is still smoldering in some isolated hot spots.
The Forest Service stated that there are no structures in immediate danger, and the Fouts Springs OHV area, seven miles south of the incident, is open. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire was first reported at 2 p.m on Friday, and three engines, three water tenders, four crews, two helicopters and two single-engine air tankers responded to the fire at the time. The Forest Service recommends that people check the Forest Service Facebook or Twitter pages for more information about the fire.
