LOWER LAKE >> Firefighters contained a fast-spreading wildland blaze Saturday afternoon in the Lower Lake area.
The incident, dubbed the Creek Fire, was reported with smoke seen on the 9400 block of Rocky Creek Road — by the location of where the 2015 Rocky Fire took place near Morgan Valley Road — just after 2 p.m.
The one-to-two acre fire quickly in acreage as Lake County Fire and Cal Fire crews hustled to arrive at the scene. Initially, the fight against the blaze took a toll as engines en route found they could not cross a bridge — the only way to the incident. Via scanner reports, suppression heavily relied on helicopter support.
By around 3 p.m. forward progress of the fire was stopped at 32 acres.
Cal Fire pronounced a 100-percent containment by Sunday morning.
On Monday, Lake County Fire Chief William Sapeta said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Over the weekend a series of smaller fires also took place, with two in the Upper Lake area. The first, on Saturday, took place near Lake Mendocino on Highway 20 and the second on Sunday afternoon on Mockingbird Lane, near the site of the annual Passion Play. Both ground and air support from Cal Fire and Northshore Fire helped stopped the blazes.
