
KELSEYVILLE >> The annual Sonoma State/Kelseyville High School girls volleyball camp is set for July 23-26 and now accepting sign-ups.
The four-day camp at Kelseyville High School is actually two camps in one. Camp A is for girls entering the fifth through eighth grades in the upcoming school year. Camp B is for girls entering the ninth through 12th grades.
Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 24 athletes in each group will be accepted. You can register at the door on the first day of camp provided space is available. Campers are responsible for bringing broken-in court shoes, shorts and kneepads to the camp. Drink is optional as water is provided.
The cost for Camp A is $80 if payment is received by July 1. After July 1 it’s $90. Camp A hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each of the four days. The cost for Camp B is $110 if payment is received by July 1. After July 1 it’s $120. Camp B hours are 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each of the four days.
Among the campers participating will be incoming junior outside hitter and setter Allison Bryant and incoming senior libero Payton Conrad, both All-League first-team players for Kelseyville last season.
Camp instruction is provided by Bear Grassl, the Sonoma State University women’s volleyball head coach and members of the Kelseyville High School staff. Campers will learn overhand and underhand passing, spiking, blocking, serving, individual and team offensive formations, and individual and team defensive formations.
The camp goal is to stimulate a love for the game in young athletes by showing them how to accelerate their own progress and success. Individual training in all skill areas is provided. Camp athletes will be assigned to ability level specific groups. Each camp session will end with controlled scrimmages and game-like situations.
