LAKE COUNTY >> Softball players looking to sharpen their playing skills during the summer have the perfect opportunity to do so when Santa Rosa Junior College hosts a four-day camp July 16-19 at Marv Mays Field.
Players ages 9-13 are welcome to attend. The cost is $140 or $155 if you want the additional pitching or catching sessions.
Offensive and defensive skills are emphasized during the camp. You can get more than 16 hours of personalized instruction on SRJC’s all-turf facility.
Check-in time the first day of camp is 8 a.m. and the camp runs through 12:30 p.m. each of the four days. Pitching/catching lessons are 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
You should register in advance to secure a spot. A sign-up form is available online at srjcathletics.com or you can contact SRJC softball coach Phil Wright at 484-0479 or 527-4237.

Tennis play opens
KELSEYVILLE >> The Konocti Junior Tennis Program meets Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and runs for eight weeks at the Gard Street tennis courts in Kelseyville.
Free lessons are provided for beginners and intermediate players age 8-18. Players should bring their own drinking water. Racquets are provided.

Rowing instruction
LAKEPORT >> Rowing lessons for beginners will be offered June 30 and again on July 7 at Clear Lake. Held in conjunction with the Clear Lake Scullers summer season, the rowing lessons are offered by Mike Sullivan, who coaches rowing at UC Davis.
Learn to Row Days on those two Saturday are free and take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Clear Lake Scullers club in Lakeport. Residents and visitors of all ages are welcome. Kayaks will be available to try in addition to the rowing sculls. People are also welcome to learn to row on the team boat every Saturday at 8 a.m. and no experience is necessary.
Sullivan also will be holding an adult sweep and sculling camp from July 2 through July 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $100, which includes summer membership in the Clear Lake Scullers and use of club boats. Youth and high school paddling, rowing and water safety camp takes place from July 2 to July 6 from 10:30a.m. to noon for a cost of $40. Membership in the Clear Lake Scullers is open to the public and there is rowing year-round, weather permitting. The goal of Clear Lake Scullers is to provide broad access to beautiful Clear Lake and to expose people to a wide variety of aquatic sports with emphasis on safety and competence. Sullivan is also available to teach the skills necessary for athletes to train and race.

Tourney honors Larrea
LAKEPORT >> The first Paul Larrea Memorial junior varsity and varsity boys basketball tournament takes place Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Clear Lake High School gym.
The four-team tournament features a round-robin format. It is being sponsored by the CLHS Sports Foundation in honor of the longtime Clear Lake High School counselor, drama teacher, girls soccer and baseball coach. Larrea died suddenly on Oct. 19, 2017.
The boys basketball program wanted to honor Larrea with a tournament bearing his name. Competing in the varsity division will be Clear Lake, Bentley, Vacaville Christian and Bay School of San Francisco. The JV bracket will feature Clear Lake, Bentley, Vacaville Christian and Summit K2.
