KELSEYVILLE >> The Westside Community Park Committee (WCPC) recently took possession of a new Husqvarna commercial riding lawn mower from Rainbow Ag in Kelseyville and Ukiah, said to be a “significant” help in maintaining the park.

Thanks to the support of Rainbow Ag’s owner, Jim Mayfield, WCPC was able to get this purchase to fit within its budget constraints.

WCPC Chairperson Dennis Rollins said, “The purchase of this new piece of equipment was made possible as a result of last August’s Grillin’ on the Green. In addition to Mayfield, the WCPC, extends a huge thank you to those who attended last year’s BBQ Cook-Off for helping to make this purchase possible.”

The new Husqvarna mower replaces the aged Hustler mower purchased used at auction from the Lakeport Unified School District over five years ago. Keeping the Hustler mower operational had become a challenge according to Rollins. He also thanked, “Mayfield and his staff for working with the Committee to make this possible.”

The WCPC is a nonprofit corporation working with the City of Lakeport to develop 60 acres dedicated for development as the Westside Community Park. Having completed the development of Phase 1, the Rotary Field and parking lot, WCPC turned over operation and maintenance of that facility to the City of Lakeport.

Phase 2, the Jane Barnes Field, continues to be developed, maintained and operated by the WCPC. This arrangement will continue until that seven-acre section is completely developed. At that time the City will assume responsibility for it.

The Jane Barnes Field is home to the Konocti Youth Soccer League, a softball division of the Westshore Little League, the Lakeport team of the Williams Men’s Soccer League and the Early Lake Lions’ Club Horseshoe League.

In addition to maintaining the five acres of the Jane Barnes Field the WCPC also mows the Ron Raetz Dog Park locate at the Westside Community Park.

“This new Husqvarna mower is a significant help in the Westside Community Park Committee’s ongoing maintenance of the park’s facilities.” said Rollins.
