COBB MOUNTAIN >> The Lake County Junior Golf Championship celebrates its silver anniversary on July 31 with the 25th annual playing of the event at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.
The tournament is open to boys and girls between the ages of 10-17. There are four divisions for boys based on age and another for girls. The $15 tournament entry fee includes golf, lunch, tee prizes and awards. Entries are available at all Lake County golf course pro shops or by calling tournament director John Berry at 245-5047.
The deadline to enter is July 29. Checks should be made out to Lake County Junior Golf and mailed to John Berry, 1800 S. Main St., No. 48, Lakeport, CA, 95453.
Boys age divisions are 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17. Winners will be crowned in all age divisions, and overall boys and girls champions will be acknowledged. Last year’s champions were Matt Wotherspoon and Maddie Witt. Because Wotherspoon, the five-time defending champion, is now 18, he is no longer eligible to compete.
Other boys division winners in 2017 were Charles Johnson (10-11), Andrew Martez (14-15) and Derek Coulter (16-17).
Consistent with NorCal junior tournament, Lake County Junior will not allow caddies. Spectators and fans must remain 30 feet away from all contestants. Spectator advice is prohibited and will result in penalty/disqualification under the rules of golf. Contestants can carry their bag or use a pull car. Motorized carts are prohibited.
This year’s Lake County Junior is sponsored by the Clearlake Callayomi Masonic Lodge, Jack and Sharon Lucich, Eddie and Linda Mullins, the Adams Springs Men’s Golf Club, the Buckingham Men’s Golf Club, and John and Julie Berry.
