KELSEYVILLE >> Firefighters put out a small vegetation fire on Anderson Island in Kelseyville that threatened at least one structure on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at three to five acres at around 5:30 p.m. on the more than 20-acre island, adjacent to Buckingham Park.

Crews from the Kelseyville Fire Protection District and Cal Fire attended the incident. Via scanner reports, fire personnel was ferried off onto the island from Braito’s Buckingham Marina.

In the meantime, air tankers and helicopters circled the perimeters as they dropped retardant and water. The island’s power was turned off, shortly after first responders attended the incident.

Locals from afar spotted a large, grey cloud caused by the fire. But before matters could worsen on the island, firefighters stopped forward progress of the fire at just over three acres by 6:40 p.m.

No injuries or structure damage was reported.

Pawnee Fire Update

Just east of Anderson Island, the Pawnee Fire reaches 90-percent containment as of Wednesday morning. Cal Fire reported the fire at 15,000 acres that same morning. Full containment is expected by Saturday, July 7. All mandatory and advisory evacuations were lifted earlier this week. Highway 20, between Highway 53 and Highway 16, was completely shut down for at least 24 hours due to fire danger.

Many fire personnel, based at the Lake County Fairgrounds, have started to pack up as fire activity diminishes. Some found packing said they were headed straight to combat the County Fire in Yolo County.

County Fire Update

At an impressive 82,700 acres, the County Fire is now 25-percent contained as of Wednesday morning. Cal Fire said no structures had been damaged nor any injuries reported since its start on Saturday, June 30. Full containment is predicted for Tuesday, July 10.

The cause of all three fires remains under investigation.
