NICE >> Two men were booked into the Lake County Jail after attempting to trade heroin for a vehicle and later resisting arrest.

Joe Nathan Boggs, 21, of Lucerne, and Lakeport resident Adrian David Marrufo, 19, were arrested in the parking lot of Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino on Tuesday.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received information about a man working to trade a controlled substance for a vehicle. A detective with the Narcotics Unit went undercover and contacted a suspect via phone, agreeing to meet him at the casino for the trade.

“The suspect told the detective he would trade three ounces of heroin for the vehicle,” the LCSO said.

Once the detective arrived, Boggs and Marrufo approached him. Boggs pulled out a clear plastic bag that contained a brown substance believed to be heroin.

When additional detectives came and ordered the two suspects to get on the ground, only Marrufo complied. Boggs ran away and released a large plastic bag containing brown substance to the ground, according to the LCSO.

Marrufo told detectives the substance in the bag was fake heroin and a small amount of the actual drug was in his pocket. When detectives finally apprehended Boggs, a small amount of methamphetamine was also found in his pocket.

Both men remain in custody with bail set at $25,000 each.
