LOWER LAKE >> Lake County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating details surrounding the death of a Southern California man who was recently found dead in Cache Creek.
On Thursday, authorities identified the male as Noe Figueroa, who was only 18 years old.
His remains were found on Sunday, July 8 in the 87-mile-long creek in Lower Lake.
Detectives found that Figueroa had initially gone to the Ukiah area to visit family and later traveled to Lower Lake, where he stayed for the past week at an unknown location.
According to LCSO Lt. Corey Paulich, “[t]he family was not aware of any circumstances related to his death.”
“Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Figueroa’s death,” LCSO said in a statement.
A kayaker in the area found the body on Sunday afternoon before reporting to authorities.
The preliminary cause of Figueroa’s death is drowning, pending toxicology results which is usually completed within a month, Paulich added.
The LCSO released a photograph of Figueroa.
Sheriff’s detectives are asking anyone with information about Figueroa’s activities in Lake County from July 1 through 8 or anyone who may know where Figueroa was living, to contact Detective Richard Kreutzer at 707-262-4233, or email at richard.kreutzer@lakecountyca.gov.
