CLEARLAKE >> Big 5 Sporting Goods, the leading sporting goods retailer in the Western United States, is scheduled to open its newest location in Clearlake next month.

The company announced the grand opening will take place on Thursday, August 9. The new store’s Grand Opening Sale kicks off Sunday, August 12 and will feature three-consecutive daily giveaways to the first 50 customers beginning Thursday, August 16 through Saturday, August 18. An enter-to-win promotion will also be included throughout the five-day Grand Opening Sale.

The 12,405 square foot, full-line sporting goods store is located at 15930 Dam Road and will provide a number of new jobs. Big 5 comes just three weeks after the slated grand opening of the Tractor Supply Company on Thursday, July 19. The two retailers will join a third store — still unknown — in the space once occupied by the former Ray’s Food Place, which closed in 2016.

Normal store hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Steve Miller, the President and Chief Executive Officer said, “We are very excited about opening our newest store in Clearlake’s vibrant market and believe the new location will enhance our proven ability to successfully fulfill the needs of sports enthusiasts in the community.”

Big 5 Sporting Goods was founded in 1955 and currently operates 436 full-line sporting goods stores in eleven (11) western states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. There are 228 Big 5 stores operating in California alone.
