UPPER LAKE >> Upper Lake High School will honor the memory of a former athlete and alum with the inaugural Tyler Duncan Memorial Soccer Tournament on Aug. 24-25.
Tyler Duncan, a 2011 Upper Lake graduate who played soccer and junior varsity basketball, died on June 30, 2017 at the age of 25 because of complications from graft versus host disease, that after winning a battle with leukemia. Duncan’s mom, Valerie, and sister, Maia, both teach at Upper Lake Middle School.
There will be four-team boys and girls brackets and the tournament format is round robin, meaning each team plays every other team once. Competing in the girls bracket are host Upper Lake, Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Middletown. The boys field features host Upper Lake, Clear Lake, Potter Valley and Tomales.
Tournament rules call for 35-minute halves with a 10-minute halftime. Two-minute water breaks during the middle of the halves will be allowed.
Admission prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. A full snack bar will be available.
The tournament schedule on Aug. 24 has Potter Valley vs. Upper Lake (boys) at 2:30 p.m., Clear Lake vs. Tomales (boys) at 4 p.m., Kelseyville vs. Middletown (girls) at 5:30 p.m., and Clear Lake vs. Upper Lake (girls) at 7 p.m.
The tournament schedule on Aug. 25 has Middletown vs. Upper Lake (girls) at 9 a.m., Clear Lake vs. Upper Lake (boys) at 10:30 a.m., Clear Lake vs. Middletown (girls) at noon, Potter Valley vs. Clear Lake (boys) at 1:30 p.m., Kelseyville vs. Clear Lake (girls) at 3 p.m., Tomales vs. Potter Valley (boys) at 4:30 p.m., Upper Lake vs. Kelseyville (girls) at 6 p.m., and Upper Lake vs. Tomales (boys) at 7:30 p.m.
Games will be played on both the high school football field and the field located next to the softball diamond.
