LAKEPORT >> Marking a mile stone, the Konocti Rod and Gun Club and the Lake County 4-H are holding their 14th Annual Free Family Fun Shoot on Saturday, August 4 at the shooting range across from Highland Springs park. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is a one-of-a-kind event in California, according to organizers. While there is a $10 and $75 charge for participants, all ammunition and firearms are free.
As a safe and friendly learning environment, there will be one-on-one coaching at each shooting position. The event is overseen by a certified Range Safety Officer at all times and there are multiple instructors coaching the individual stations. There are dozens of targets placed on the range from 25 feet to 200 yards, with rubber and steel reactive targets, hanging plate steel and containers filled with flour.
On the line, there will be 10 different shooting stations to visit with a variety of firearms, including .22 caliber single shot rifles, .22 semi-automatic rifles, center fire bolt action rifles, center fire semi-automatic rifles, black powder rifles and 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. One station will have a target retrieval system to bring the target back in for one to take home.
Parents and kids alike learn about safety, shooting and firearms in a safe, fun and controlled environment.
There will be free safety literature on safe firearms handling and storage in the home, and gun locks for all participants.
A free lunch will also be provided at the event. For more information, visit www.krgc.org or call Rick or Jill at 707-995-1965.
