PARIS, Tenn. >> Cooper Goff of Kelseyville High School and Sheldon Reese of Clear Lake High School made a major move toward the top of the leader board on Friday during the second round of the Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Series National Championship at Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tennessee.
After catching only one fish on Thursday during first-round action, Goff and Reese brought a five-fish limit weighing 16 pounds, 15 ounces to the weigh scale on Friday. They moved from 124th place to 17th place, unfortunately only the top 12 teams advance to Saturday’s final round.
For two days of fishing, the Reese-Goff team has a total weight of 21-14. The 16-15 bag on Friday was the day’s third best.
Spencer Childers and Owen Moss of Pickens High School (Pickens, South Carolina) moved atop the leader board with 34-14. Their closest pursuers are first-round leaders Wes Rollo and Hunter Owens of Natchitoches Central High School (Natchitoches, Louisiana) with 32-13, and Grayson Morris and Tucker Smith of Briarwood Christian School (Birmingham, Alabama) with 31-9.
Fourth place belongs to Josh Lee and Mason Cizek of Karns Bass Fishing Club (Nashville, Tennessee) with 29-1. Lee and Cizek weighed in 19-4 on Friday, the big bag of the day.
Big fish honors belong to Teddy Peznola and Nate Smith of Leominster High School (Leominster, Massachusetts). They caught a 9-pound, 6-ounce bass on Friday, their only fish of the tournament.
