LAKEPORT >> Once upon a time, the Anderson Valley Panthers used to drive the Clear Lake High School varsity volleyball team crazy with a patient defense that simply wore the Cardinals down. Those days are gone.

Clear Lake’s young and rebuilding squad thoroughly dominated Anderson Valley on Monday in Lakeport, winning 25-14, 25-18, 25-13 in non-league action.

Shaelyn McIntire’s big night carried the Cardinals, now 2-1 on the season. The junior outside hitter led the team in point scored (23), aces (10) and kills (12).

“Best I’ve seen her play,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “She found the open spot all night long.”

Senior setter Kylie Udy finished with 72 assists to go along with six aces, and Shelby Butcher added three kills.

The Cardinals are off until Saturday when they compete in the Fort Bragg Tournament.
