LAKEPORT >> Since losing its season opener to Colusa last week, the Clear Lake High School junior varsity volleyball team has reeled off eight straight wins under new coach Morgan Psalmonds, the latest coming Monday in a 25-4, 25-10 non-league victory over the visiting Anderson Valley Panthers.
Serving machine Sydney Howe served 16 straight points in the first set and had a team-best 10 aces on the night. She had 19 points overall.
The win over Anderson Valley follows Clear Lake’s 5-0 run on Saturday at the Arcata Tournament where the Cardinals beat Fortuna in two sets in the championship match. Clear Lake defeated Fortuna, Del Norte and McKinleyville in pool play, then knocked off Eureka in the semifinals to reach the championship round against Fortuna.
Outside hitter Raina Chiston, who began the year as a setter, powered the Cardinals up front while Howe recorded 11 aces in a pool play win against Del Norte.
Clear Lake isn’t scheduled to return to the court until its Sept. 4 league opener at St. Helena.
