
UPPER LAKE >> Upper Lake High School will honor the memory of a former athlete and alum with the inaugural Tyler Duncan Memorial Soccer Tournament beginning Thursday and running through Saturday at the Upper Lake High football and practice fields.
Tyler Duncan, a 2011 Upper Lake graduate who played soccer and junior varsity basketball, died on June 30, 2017 at the age of 25 because of complications from graft versus host disease, that after winning a battle with leukemia. Duncan’s mom, Valerie, and sister, Maia, both teach at Upper Lake Middle School.
There will be a five-team girls bracket with the recent edition of St. Bernard of Eureka and a four-team boys bracket. The tournament format is round robin, meaning each team plays every other team once. Competing in the girls bracket are host Upper Lake, Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Middletown and St. Bernard. The boys field features host Upper Lake, Clear Lake, Potter Valley and Technology of Rohnert Park.
Tournament rules call for 35-minute halves with a 10-minute halftime. Two-minute water breaks during the middle of the halves will be allowed.
Admission prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. A full snack bar will be available.
The tournament schedule on Thursday features only three girls games – Upper Lake vs. Kelseyville at 4 p.m., Middletown vs. St. Bernard at 5:30 p.m., and Clear Lake vs. Upper Lake at 7 p.m.
On Friday, four games will be played beginning with St. Bernard vs. Clear Lake (girls) at 2:30 p.m., Clear Lake vs. Technology (boys) at 4 p.m., Kelseyville vs. Middletown (girls) at 5:30 p.m., and Potter Valley vs. Upper Lake (boys) at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the final day of the tournament, a total of nine games are scheduled. Action begins with St. Bernard vs. Upper Lake (girls) at 8:30 a.m., Middletown vs. Clear Lake (girls) at 9:45 a.m., Kelseyville vs. St. Bernard (girls) at 11 a.m., Clear Lake vs. Upper Lake (boys) at 12:15 p.m., Upper Lake vs. Middletown (girls) at 1:30 p.m., Potter Valley vs. Clear Lake (boys) at 2:45 p.m., Clear Lake vs. Kelseyville (girls) at 4 p.m., Technology vs. Potter Valley (boys) at 5:15 p.m., and Upper Lake vs. Technology (boys) at 6:30 p.m. (the tournament schedule is also list under high school schedule on Page B2).
