LAKE COUNTY>> On Monday, Aug. 27, Rex Bohn, 1st District Supervisor from Humboldt County, made the long trip to Lake County to present a check for $7,500 in support of Lake County fire survivors.
In presenting the check, Supervisor Bohn said, “These funds are made available by the good people of Humboldt County to help in your recovery.”
The funds were turned over to Rae Eby-Carl, Treasurer of the Lake County Silver Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, to distribute to fire survivors.
Silver Foundation President and Lake County Supervisor, Jim Steele, expressed his gratitude saying, “The River and Ranch fires caused mass evacuations, shut down our County seat, destroyed homes and property and is now the largest fire in California history. These funds will support our meals on wheels programs in the effected areas and enable us to provide gift cards to help our hardest hit seniors and their families.”
In addition to the Silver Foundation president, several of the Foundation Board members were on hand to celebrate the occasion including Gene Paleno, Rae Eby-Carl, Claudine Pedroncelli and Olga Martin Steele.
Asked by Foundation Board members how the donation came about, Supervisor Bohn explained that the initial inspiration to raise funds was the Carr Fire in Shasta and Trinity Counties. He added, “Humboldt cares and when we realized the impact of the River and Ranch fires on Lake County, we wanted to do our part to help out.”
Rex Bohn is currently Vice-Chair of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. He also Chairs the Rural County Representatives of California, an organization that champions policies on behalf of California’s rural counties – including Lake County.
Foundation Director Claudine Pedroncelli will administer the gift card distribution.
The process is under development and will be announced in the near future.
