LAKEPORT >> At its Tuesday, September 4 meeting of the Lakeport City Council, City Manager Margaret Silveira will propose the city’s opposition to Proposition 6, a state ballot measure that proposes the repeal of the Repair and Accountability Act. The Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, also known as the Gas Tax or SB 1, has been cited by the League of California Cities as creating “economic activity and safety benefits” for cities throughout California. Lakeport is a member of the Redwood Empire division of the LCC, and Silveira’s comments are likely to parallel the views of the LCC.
The Lakeport City Council will review and file the city’s responses to the 2017-2018 Grand Jury report at the same meeting. Though individual cities are not required to respond to Grand Jury reports on the whole, they are required to respond to some findings and recommendations that pertain to them specifically.
Also Tuesday, the council will honor Lakeport Fire Protection District Director Gerald “Gerry” Mills as he prepares to retire from the Board of Directors. Mills has served more than 20 years with the district. The Lakeport Fire district is currently battling a difficult budget decision stemming from a significant lack of funding, which has worsened in recent years even as local fire districts have sprung into action during multiple recent major wildfires like the Mendocino Complex. The Lakeport City Council will express thanks Tuesday to the LFPD as a whole for its “service during the recent wildfires.”
The council will also consider adopting a new American Disabilities Act “Grievance Procedure,” for which Lakeport Administrative Services Director Kelly Buendia would be named ADA Coordinator.
Dan Peterson, Chief Administrative Officer of Sutter Lakeside Hospital, will present to the City Council how the hospital is responding to the Mendocino Complex fires. Sutter Lakeside hospital was evacuated during the fires and therefore forced to transfer multiple patients to other hospitals.
