Kayla Ward has been working hard the better part of 10 years to earn her black belt in karate and the 28-year-old Clearlake resident is closing in on that dream. Now a red belt with two stripes, Ward will test for her black belt in November at Lake County Martial Arts in Lakeport, which is wear she has been a student for the past decade. Ward returned from a Golden State Karate Association tournament on Saturday in Manteca with three plaques to show for her efforts. She finished first in women’s advanced sparring and first in weapons forms, and also second in forms.
