Marcus Jon Iano, recently appeared at the Lake County Superior Court for a sentencing hearing after being convicted of attempted murder in June of this year.
Deputy District Attorney John DeChaine read an impact statement written by the victim in this case, which was marked and received into evidence.
The Court read and considered the Report and Recommendation of the Lake County Probation Officer, which was ordered filed and received into evidence. Probation was denied and the Court made the following findings:
• The defendant was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and controlled substance at the time of the commission of the offense.
• The defendant has a demonstrated history of substance abuse.
It was the judgement of the Court that the defendant is guilty of a felony violation of attempted murder/murder. As punishment Iano will be imprisoned in state prison for the upper term of nine years with an enhancement of six additional years, making the defendant’s total term 15 years.
The defendant was ordered to pay two restitution fines of $4,500 each, court operations & criminal conviction assessment fees totaling $70 and a criminal justice administrative fee of $90. Restitution is reserved for the victim and California Victim Compensation Program.
Iano was awarded 314 days of credit for time served and 47 days of conduct credits with a total of 361 days credit.
The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Lake County Sheriff and delivered to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The 42-year-old Hidden Valley Lake man has been accused of attempted murder, causing permanent disability and other counts related to a severe head wound suffered by his girlfriend.
In December of last year, Iano had entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges.
In October of last year, Iano and his mother reported a possible drug overdose, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office statements. The victim was unresponsive when they dropped her off at Adventist Health Hospital in Clearlake. Doctors there located an apparent bullet wound in her head.
Iano was arrested after returning to the hospital.
