LAKEPORT >> Lower Lake snapped a 1-1 tie with five minutes remaining and beat the Clear Lake Cardinals 2-1 in North Central League I boys soccer action on Tuesday evening in Lakeport.

Ulices Valencia’s penalty kick in the second half pulled the Cardinals even with the Trojans, who led 1-0 after the first half.

“I’m actually OK with getting beat because Lower Lake is one of the top teams this year and we played well,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said.

Lower Lake improved to 2-0 in the league standings while Clear Lake fell to 0-2.

The Cardinals are on the road Tuesday to play Fort Bragg.

Lower Lake scoring was not reported. The Trojans play at St. Helena on Tuesday.

In other boys soccer action Thursday:

Fort Bragg 4, Kelseyville 2

At Kelseyville, Damian Ledesma’s goal in the second half pulled Kelseyville into a 2-2 tie, but the Fort Bragg Timberwolves went on to beat the Knights in North Central League I action.

Jesus Duarte scored on a free kick in the first half to give the Knights (0-2) a 1-0 lead. Fort Bragg tied it at 1-1 before halftime.

“We’re pretty young,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said of the Knights, who had no preseason games before opening league play on Tuesday with a 3-1 loss at Lower Lake.

“We made a couple of mistakes on defense and they got us,” Ledesma said of the Timberwolves. “We’re not quite there yet.”

Justin Perez assisted on Ledesma’s goal.

Kelseyville is on the road Tuesday to play Willits.
