EUREKA >> It was a loss, but it sure didn’t feel like one to Clear Lake High School varsity volleyball coach Marci Psalmonds.
Eureka beat Clear Lake 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 on Friday night, but the Cardinals played their best defense of the season, according to Psalmonds.
“It was a good night even though we lost because it’s the best I’ve seen them play,” Psalmonds said of her players.
Shaelyn McIntire led the way with nine kills while teammate Emma Boatwright added seven kills and five blocks. Nearly everyone on the team racked up a fair number of digs, and it was that defense that really impressed Psalmonds. Madi Ferguson led the way with 19 digs while McKintre and Kyle Udy each had 13. Udy, the Cardinals’ setter, also had 21 assists.
Clear Lake participates in the Arcata Tournament on Saturday and travels to Fort Bragg for a North Central League I match on Tuesday.
