KELSEYVILLE >> After Kelseyville dropped the first set to El Molino on Monday in a non-league varsity volleyball match at Kelseyville High School, Knights head coach Donelle McCallister said she was interested to see how her veteran club would respond.
“They handled it pretty well,” McCallister said following Kelseyville’s 22-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 victory over a Lions club that has substantial game.
“Payton (Conrad) told me, ‘Don’t worry coach, we’ve got this,’” McCallister said of the reaction of her senior libero after Kelseyville dropped the first set in the best-of-five match.
Kelseyville’s player of the match was setter Paige Bour, who did a little of everything and a lot of some specific things for the Knights. Bour had a team-high 10 aces on 33 serves to go along with 25 assists and 19 digs.
“She was picking up some massive swings,” McCallister said. “She worked her butt off.”
Allison Bryant inflicted her share of damage against the Lions with a team-best 20 kills while Ryann Taylor had eight kills on only 18 arm swings.
Kelseyville had beaten El Molino twice earlier in tournament play.
“They definitely have some firepower,” McCallister said.
Kelseyville, the three-time defending North Central League I champion, resumes its league schedule Tuesday night in Willits. The Knights are off to a 2-0 start in league play this season.
Kelseyville also won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-17.
