UPPER LAKE >> The last time the Upper Lake Cougars beat the St. Vincent Mustangs in girls soccer?

That’s a good question, but it happened on Monday afternoon as Upper Lake beat the Petaluma school 2-1 in North Central League II action in Upper Lake.

Karlee Zimmershied and Chelsea Hermoso scored in the first half for Upper Lake after St. Vincent grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

Upper Lake keeper Cheyanne Obedoza stopped 11 shots as the Cougars improved to 3-0 in the league standings and 4-4 overall.

“Our defense just stacked up,” Upper Lake assistant coach Thomas Santana said. “Hailey (Reams), Mallory (Henry) and Harmony (Byrd) did a great job on defense and our midfielders played well, too.”

Atlantis Jones assisted on Zimmerschied’s goal. Both players are freshmen. Vanessa Loans Arrow assists on Hermoso’s goal, which proved to be the game-winning shot.

Upper Lake returns to action Wednesday against Credo in Rohnert Park at 4:30 p.m.
